Add Genotypes to Unweaned Litter

If you receive genotyping results before or at weaning time, you can easily add genotypes to unweaned pups as follows:

  1. Go to the Litter List
  2. Select the Litter for which you want to input the genotype(s) and click Edit Litter
  3. On the Edit Litter Page, click on the Edit pups button directly under the Litters > edit Litter record header

Once on the Edit Litters table, here are a few options you have to add the genotypes :

Option 1: All pups have the same genotype

If all of the pups have the same genotype, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Gene from the drop down
  2. Select the associated Allele from the drop down
  3. Click Add --- this will update the Genotype Box
  4. Select all check boxes in the Pup Information table
Repeat steps 1-4 if there are more than one genes to track
  5. Click Submit  --- the genotype column will be filled in with the contents of the genotype box

Option 2: A subset of the pups have the same genotype

If the alleleic variation is the same only for a subset of the pups, follow these steps:

  1. Select the Gene from the drop down
  2. Select the associated Allele from the drop down (e.g. +/-)
  3. Click Add --- this will update the Genotype Box
  4. Select the check boxes in the Pup Information table of all pups that have this genotype only
  5. Click Submit+Stay  --- the genotype column will be filled in with the contents of the genotype box for the selected pups
  6. Select the same Gene from the drop down
  7. Select the next Allele from the drop down (e.g. +/+)
  8. Click Add --- this will update the Genotype Box
  9. Select the check boxes of all pups that have this genotype only
  10. Click Submit  --- the genotype column will be filled in with the contents of the genotype box
Repeat for as many different genotypes as needed

Option 3: Compounding genotypes

If you are tracking multiple genes and the allelic variations differ for each gene across all pups, follow these steps:

  1. Execute all steps in Option 2 above to add the first gene
  2. Repeat all steps for the next Gene in question
  3. You will notice that as you add the second gene, the Genotype column in the Pup Information table will simply compound as you add the additional genes of interest
